If you have difficulty walking or use a mobility aid or wheelchair, check the facilities that are available to you at the museum.
Please note: Up until 1 March 2024, our elevator will be renovated. It is not possible to use the lift during this time. As a result, most of the museum is temporarily not wheelchair accessible. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The Mesdag Collection is dedicated to being a museum that is accessible to everyone, also those with a physical or sensory disability. Everyone who is unable to make their way through the museum independently is therefore welcome to bring a companion with them, for free. Don’t forgot to order a free ticket for your companion when booking your ticket online.
Own mobility aids
Wheelchairs, mobility walkers and scooters up to 500 kg are permitted in the museum. Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum, and do not need to be registered in advance of your visit. If you require assistance during your visit, staff members at the reception and ticket desk are always pleased to help.
Floor plan with services
A floor plan with information about our services is available from the Information Desk in the museum.
Tickets and admission for companions
If you are planning a visit to the museum, please book your ticket(s) online. Everyone who is unable to make their way through the museum independently is welcome to bring a companion with them, for free. Don’t forgot to order a free ticket for your companion when booking your ticket online.
Museum entrance
The museum entrance is on the right-hand side in the front garden (follow the arrow on the sign). You can also park your bike near this entrance. After entering the museum, turn left for all services and the ticket desk. The card payment machine at the ticket desk is attached to a long cord, so that it can also be operated from a wheelchair. (This is also the cash desk for the shop and café).
Toilets and lifts
The museum has a lift, located diagonally opposite the group entrance, offering access to all floors. Lift measurements: 110 cm (width) x 150 cm (depth). Door opening width: 90 cm. A maximum of two people are permitted in the lift at any one time.
Please note: Up until 1 March 2024, our elevator will be renovated. It is not possible to use the lift during this time. As a result, most of the museum is temporarily not wheelchair accessible. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The adapted toilet is located on the ground floor, adjacent to the shop. Several wooden threshold strips (max. 1-3 cm) are on the floor between the galleries. The garden is wheelchair accessible, although there are narrow shell paths.
Wheelchair and seats for loan
The museum has one wheelchair for loan. We recommend reserving the wheelchair in advance of your visit, by sending an email to info@demesdagcollectie.nl. The museum also has foldable seats for visitors who are unable to stand for lengthy periods. These seats are available at the entrance, and do not need to be reserved in advance.
Getting to us
There are good public transport links to The Mesdag Collection. Read more about how to get to the museum.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs such as hearing dogs are welcome in the museum, so long as they are wearing a vest. There is no need to register assistance dogs in advance of your visit.
Sunflower lanyard for recognition
Not all disabilities are visible. Be visible when you choose to be. The Mesdag Collection recognises and acknowledges people wearing a Sunflower lanyard. This is a lanyard for people with non-visible disabilities or conditions, such as autism, Alzheimer’s, dementia or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The lanyards and cards are available via the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower website.
